A selection of Fender guitars specifically Made in Japan. These popular guitars were manufactured under collaborative licence between 1982 and 2015 by FujiGen Gakki, Tōkai Gakki and Dyna Gakki. The guitars made in the early years (1982 to 1996) by FujiGen Gakki feature “Made in Japan” labels at the base of the neck – known in the market as Fender MIJ (*).
When Tokai Gakki started manufacturing for Fender, 1993, they were instructed to use “Crafted in Japan“. For a few years, 1993 to 1996, there were guitars made by both companies – MIJ and CIJ models. From 1996 – FujiGen Gakki stopped all production and all models were assigned the “Crafted in Japan” label.
Don’t forget Made in Mexico – Another popular variety of the Fender guitar as those that were produced in Mexico. Fender started producing guitars from their plant in Ensenada, Mexico, in 1990. The MIM (Made in Mexico) Fenders have a dedicated prefix before their serial number
